Julie Clawson recently wrote a compelling article about the Cordoba House in Sojourners, the Christian publication founded by Jim Wallis. This represents just one example of the support we are receiving from the Christian American community. We appreciate the support, and embrace the interconnectivity of all faiths in America. You can read her article, titled, “Forgiveness, Fear, and the Mosque at Ground Zero,” HERE.

I would like to add my voice to that of Julie Clawson and many others as Christians supporting Cordoba House (or if not supporting directly, at least combating the vitriol from some Christians aimed at this project.) I am a Christian pastor, currently serving in Oregon. However, I called Northern Virginia home during the September 11, 2001 attacks. To be sure, it was a scary time for all of us. But we cannot let that fear mutate into unfounded, misdirected hatred. As a Christian leader, it is my job to help people live with fear and cope with inevitable grief while relying God for hope and strength. I would see it as a personal failing if a member of my congregation turned to violence and insults as a way of dealing with his or her own fear. Though I know I am only one voice and that other, opposing voices may be louder, I would like to apologize for the emotional, spiritual, even physical violence done by Christians to Muslims, especially as it pertains to such a noble cause as the Cordoba House. I pray for my Christian brothers and sisters, that they may see the error of their ways and seek forgiveness from you. And I pray for you, that you may have the strength and conviction of purpose to pursue this invaluable work.

I appreciate your feelings in this matter, but i do think someone needs to raise the question about the Genocide that is being carried out in Iran against the people of the Baha’i fatih in the name of Islam.
There are those whi sit back and pat each other on the back and agree there should be a better understanding about the people who state they practice tolerance and understanding. Yet, in Iran as i type, the peoplr of the Baha’i Faith are being denied proper education and jobs. Their homes are being demolished and their Cemeteries are being bulldozed all in the name of Islam.
Yes i agree it would be wonderful to have a better understanding and acceptance of Muslims, but first let them accept that at this very moment they are denying others the freedom to practice their own Faith.
Im sorry, but i cannot aggree where i or any other Christian should say im sorry for disagreeing with their treatmant of others and their beliefs.
I also agree there are good Muslims and they mean well, but they should all stand up and say that what is happening in Iran is wrong and should cease. It makes no difference who we pray too, Al-lah, God, Jesus, it is all the same. Remember, there have only been 2 religions that have killed in the name of their Faith, Christians, and Muslims. Now the difference is the Muslims are still killing!
